Korean Children's Day at Yongma Mountain, Seoul

May 20, 2011

This is a late post. It was Children's Day (어린이날) in Korea last May 5th. It was a national non-working holiday here... so I went to hike Yongmasan with my classmates from France and China. Yongmasan is a mountain (well a hill if we apply certain standards) located in Seoul.

My classmate Ah Urikhan from Inner Mongolia, China.

Yongmasan, at 348 meters high, has exercise equipments along the hiking trail and an octagonal traditional style pavilion halfway up the mountain. At the
summit, there is a marker showing the mountain’s height above sea level and a big steel radio tower. As we walked down towards the other side from the summit, we noticed the ruins of a little fort of the Goguryeo Kingdom (BC37~AD668) built at a strategic point overlooking the region of Jungnangcheon Stream.
On our way up! That's me and Shuoren from China.
On the way up, we stopped by several observation platforms where it was possible for us to see an excellent view of Seoul. Hangang Bridge, Namsan, 63 Building, and Gangnam Business District are some of the popular landmarks we saw from up there.
A few meters from the peak.
 Rest time.

 Nope. Not yet the top!

 Mini bridge.

Getting There: Take Subway Line 7 to Yongmasan Station (Exit 2). Walk into the entrance of Hanshin Apartments, and walk straight up. Go up the stairs passing by a playground on to a set of physical exercise equipments.

Time: Roughly 2 hours going up!

1 Reactions:

You had an awesome day!
