Korea Grand Sale for Foreigners 2011

January 17, 2011

Korea can be both cheap and expensive. But hey, there is an on-going nationwide sale for foreigners. So shopaholics out there, check this out and visit Korea before the 28th of February.

Dubbed as Korea Grand Sale, this special event started last January 10th and will end on February 28th. More information on their English website. To avail of the discounts, get a membership card at the airport or pick up a coupon book at any KTO (Korea Tourism Organization) booths or offices.

And there's more!!! Tourists are also entitled to get a tax refund when they shop in Korea. Most shops in Myeongdong district of Seoul, for example, have the TAX FREE SHOPPING stickers. Just ask for the payment slips and present them at the airport (Customs Declaration counter/Oversize Baggage Input). You can get your
refund at the Cash Refund Office near gate 28 at Incheon Airport. The tax refund corresponds to the VAT (Value Added Tax) which is refundable for goods sold overseas. It’s 10% of the items' prices purchased. -> Info from HERE.

For shopping, I recommend Dongdaemun for bargain shops and Myeongdong for variety and branded items. For Korean souvenirs and traditional items, Insadong is the best place to shop. If you want comfort, warm environment and you are rich, the many Lotte Department Stores around Korea can be heaven for you! Almost all shops, regardless of size, accept credit cards.
