November 11, 2010
This is one of the oddest celebrations in Korea.
빼빼로(Pepero) Day is Korea’s version of St. Valentine’s Day. It is a special observance every 11th of November, named after the Korean snack 빼빼로 (Pepero). It’s 11/11 resembling the four sticks of Pepero. Couples and young Koreans usually observe this special holiday by exchanging Pepero sticks and other gifts.
I bought these Pepero Boxes for my female classmates.
One story says that Pepero Day started on November 11, 1994 when students at a girls' middle school in Busan exchanged Pepero sticks as gifts to wish one another a faster, more satisfying physical growth "as tall and slender as a Pepero."
So I purchased some Pepero Snacks (photo above) for all my female classmates as my simple participation to this odd holiday!
Spread the Love. Happy 빼빼로 Day!
